--SARAH PEFFLEY (dau. of  John Peffley & Mary Magdalene Robinson) was born 24 April 1841 Clark Twp, Montgomery County, died Montgomery County 26 February 1923.  married at Ladoga, Ind., Aug. 15th, 1860, THOMAS MARION ROSE, born Nov. 13th, 1832, died Nov. 25th, 1911 (son of ALFRED and MARY (Morrison) ROSE). Both are buried in Ladoga Cemetery. Thomas' great-grandfather, John Rose came to America from England. He landed in New York, where he was sold out to pay his passage. Later he went to Shenandoah Co., Va. Alfred Rose was born in Virginia, Feb. 8th, 1804, died Mar. 20th, 1890. He married in Virginia April 24th 1825, Mary Morrison, born Sept. 5th, 1807, died Nov. 3rd, 1868. Both are buried in Stoner Cemetery, Ladoga. Alfred moved to Clark Twp., Mont. Co., Ind., in 1829. They had a family of eight children. Thomas Rose farmed all his life near Ladoga.

Issue: All born near Ladoga.

1--ELLEN MAY ROSE, b. 6-29-1861 married Martin Jerome Benson - child: Ina Benson. Ina was not married when her widowed mother died of Peumonia on Feb 11, 1943 at their home in Ladoga.

2--LAVINIA FLORENCE ROSE, b. 6-29-1863, d. 9-6-1863.

3--GRANT ERNEST ROSE, b. 9-6-1868  - was a merchant and banker in Ladoga, married  #1 Cora Thomas Overstreet 16 August 1896 in Ladoga.  He and Cora lived in Black Mountain North Carolina where he did carpentry work and they had a servant, Alice Prater in 1900.  By her death, 1 July 1903 they lived back again in Indiana.  #2 Jessie Gertrude Ashby on 8 June 1910.  Jessie passed away 5 years later.  He married a young thing, 20 years less than his 51 years.  #3 Nettie Elizabeth Studebaker Stoner 25 July 1917.  She lived into her 80s but Grant departed 19 January 1946.  Grant had no children of his own (or don't think so anyway) but helped raise her children by her marriage to David Lee Stoner - Mary Katherine b. 4 Jan 1912 in Ladoga and brother, Samuel Alexander (b 23 Aug 1913 in Ladoga;

4--THOMAS MARION ROSE, JR., b. 11-1-1873, d. 12-10-1873.
